Hazard and Emergency Awareness Response Training is built around the HEART decision model — Hear, Evaluate, Act, Reassess, Treat. It prepares participants to respond effectively to active threat situations and provide immediate trauma care.

The course integrates threat recognition, stress and decision-making science (including the OODA Loop), the FBI Behavioral Change Stairway, and hands-on casualty care skills including tourniquet application and wound packing.

Training is trauma-informed, with built-in content warnings and participant opt-outs.

  • Identify pre-incident warning behaviors and select appropriate reporting pathways
  • Understand the physiological effects of stress on decision-making
  • Apply the HEART model to select appropriate responses (Run, Hide, Fight)
